I was wondering if there are any good CATHOLIC church histories out there for the elementary grades? Every time I see a church history, it's always protestant in flavour...

Rachel,
What are you looking for in the Church History. Most of the Catholic ones I know of are for older ages.
I have some good Catholic Bible Histories for elementary.
Our Father's House sells something called The ABC's of Christian Culture. It is very Catholic and has sections called Early Church and Growth of the Church. These might have what you are looking for even though it is really a whole history program. I have a very old edition and know it has been revised at least once since mine. You might ask about it. It would be very appropriate for elementary aged dc. I may actually use some of it for my history. If anyone has later editions - or the ones written for older dc, I'd love to hear what you think of them and whether it is worth updating my edition.
There is also a St Joseph's Church History by Lovasik. It covers from 30 AD to modern times. Each part of the book is broken down - so the first section covers from 30 AD to 476 AD (about the end of the Roman Empire), the next section covers the church till about 800 then the next section covers the medieval period etc. The book has nice, large type. It is like a textbook and about 190 pages. It is designed for older elementary is my guess but very good information.
There is also a booklet "Celebrating 2000 Years of Christian History which has about 1 1/2 pages on each century from the first to the 20th. We bought our copy from CHC. I don't know if it is geared to a particular age as it was part of the millenium project - but the sections are so short that it should be fine for elementary. CHC may have some suggestions about how to use it in their Middle School Plans - I'll have to check. I know there is some reason why I ordered it - though we never really used it except for reference.
Only the ABC's of Christian Culture would have activities included. They do a lot of maps, have color cards of the people and suggest some supplemental reading.
Hope this helps. I'll be looking to see what anyone else knows about these or what else might be available.

Thanks Janet...
I am trying to get ready to do a 'Classical Christian' Study with my son... we'll be doing Church History as our main component, and I guess the years are going to be from Christ's birth to the early modern times (around 1600).
I have seen many courses for older children and many texts which are Protestant... meaning they place a huge emphasis on the reformation from the 'other' point of view. I don't want that (obviously  ) for our spine 
I'm going to check out your resources... THANKS!

I just was browsing from some suggestions over in the Faith Forum under Bible studies where someone mentioned RC History (their history includes some great Bible studies in the Ancient times sight) I'd been looking to combine Bible study with a study of the history of ancient times so I checked out the sight. I was very impressed, though I have not used it myself, we are certainly contemplating it.
Their Volume II looks like it covers church history till 1100 or so using Fr Lovasik's books. I know that Vol. I has 4 levels: K-3, 3-6, 6-8, and 8-12.
I suspect Vol II would be similiar. You might check it out, it looks very interesting, though expensive.

It does look great, but expensive. I'm considering it for Sarah for her 7th and 8th grade years, but we'll see where God leads.

The books I got from RC History, I COULD have gotten from Inter-library loan...I bit the bullet and got them....I am SO glad...these books are a great asset to our home library and my kids pick them up to re-read on their own...and the recommended books for parents I love to peruse them in my "free" time too...aka they on the shelf next to where I nurse...haha...We don't have much money for books either...but for all the things we could have gotten, I am glad we got these.

Hi all,
I am in 100% agreement with Donna Marie's assessment! My kids go to the RC History books all the time!
Also, I came across today the Paidea Classics website. There is a book coming in print from them soon called "Stories of Church History~Inspiring Stories of Faith, Struggle and Triumph," by John Mason Neale. And also "A Children's History of the Church ~ From the Day of Pentecost Until the Council of Chalcedon." Some of these they have in pdf to print.
I'm wondering for myself if these would be good and true living books. Anyone know?
