Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Ds, age 5.5, wants to go to Oceania for our next geography unit. I'm looking for suggestions on Living Books taking place in Australia, Tasmania, New Zealand. We have "Possum Magic" (Mem Fox), and "Big Rain Coming" for a start, and a few photo geography books. What else is good?

My Grandma Lived in Gooligulch by Graeme Base is one of our all-time favorites.

Alison Lester books are our favourite - esp this one about travels across Australia. Lovely picture book! *Are We There Yet?( A Journey Around Australia)

Jeanne Baker has done a good book about the marine life off Tasmania - another good picture book.
* The Hidden Forest ( about a kelp forest off Tasmania. We read that for our oceans theme ).

*Two Summers by John Heffernan. Compares two Australian summers - one drought stricken.

Shawna,
If you go to my web page (listed below) you'll find many titles. I haven't got to descriptions for all but if you let me know what sort of living books you are after I can steer you in the right direction.
