Jeepers! I got 240 hits when I searched for "Latin" on the boards! Hard to keep it all together!

From other threads on Latin courses, here and here I wanted to throw out another one I just saw in Leaflet Missal Catalog. Has anyone used it or seen it? It's less expensive on Amazon Let's Read Latin by Ralph McInerny , which has a book and a cassette tape.

I like the idea of this approach, and it seems like even if you didn't use with your children as the main Latin education, that it would be a simple crash course for the adults, or as the family to learn to read the Mass parts and hymns in the Latin. For those who have seen it, would that be a good assessment?

I also have a friend taking Latin right now as an adult, and I'm wondering if this could help him.

Hi Jenn!

We have the book. I've never tried to use it as a stand-alone method of learning Latin, but it's great to use as I learn some Latin with my kids. I think even knowing the very basics of Latin helps me get a whole lot out of the book.

(Hope that makes sense - I think I need a second cup of coffee!)

Has anyone used Lingua Angelica without using Latina Christiana or another latin grammar course? I don't necessarily want an entire Latin course for ds, but thought that it would be nice for him to be able to pronounce and be familiar with the hymns and prayers in latin. Would LA work for this?

Yes, that's great info...what I'm looking for. I don't think we'd use it as a course, but kind of "getting your feet wet" type of thing. I think I might buy for dh.

   I have Lingua Angelica and really like it, though my kids don't particularly get into it. The only song I've gotten them to learn off with any enthusiasm is the rousing German university student song that kicks off the cd, "Gaudeamus igitur"... We sing it every year at our "Commencement" in September
   Now that we've found a really nice Tridentine Mass to attend, maybe I'll pull the cd out and try again to inspire dc with some of the more, er, sublime hymns!
