Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My dh told me last night that President Obama will be sworn in tomorrow using Lincoln's Bible, which no one has used since Lincoln himself was sworn in.

I just thought that was so cool; it especially hit me as we were reading today about Martin Luther King Jr.

Someone on NPR or something mentioned that Mr. Obama was doing many things ala Lincoln ... including coming in on a train from Pennsylvania ... Since both are from Illinois, not that far a stretch to see the connection.

As mentioned there is much symbolism being invoked. Our news paper this weekend had an article which mentioned how these events/moments have been a part of the campaign as well; he has used events and moments to tell a story and they are known for being "seeped in symbol's of America's past with a nod to a history-making present."

In general there is a lot of Lincoln talk this year anyway with this being the bicentennial of his birth.

And btw, another interesting connection to that train route - the funeral train that took Lincoln's body from Washington DC back to Illinois roughly following the route Lincoln had taken for the inaguration. I just posted a review of a picture book about the Lincoln funeral train in the picture book thread. So if you are intersted in all things Lincoln, join in the discussion and history planning here or post your book reviews in the Picture Book or Living Literature forums.
