Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

This is great--just what I needed this year! How far in advance do you think you'll post the plans? Thanks for all of your hard work--it truly is a blessing to us!

Oh, too weird. I posted above and then meandered over to Elizabeth's blog and found this. I guess I forgot that I must've asked you already    .

This may be a silly question that is answered somewhere else, but I am not finding it...I was thinking somewhere I had seen that serendipity was geared for about 1st grade and older. Is that correct? I am looking for something for the younger crowd - 2 to 5. Would serendipity work, maybe just follow the alphabet path? I am needing something to follow along with, I have great ideas, but then it is following through to make sure I do more besides lots of reading...
Example - I just checked out lots of books about whales and dolphins from the library and we read them, and the kiddos love them, but then I don't know where to go from there. I know this is lengthy, and maybe should have started another topic...
I think part of it is, that since I know our 2 1/2 yr old will be homeschooled, I want to get off on the right foot!
Thoughts or ideas ladies? Sorry, if I completely took this topic another direction.

The new set of plans for this fall are designed to be family friendly for a wide age range, but we are all also repeating the Alphabet Path for our younger set this year. In my home, it will be geared to my five year old, but it will give my two year old lots of good stuff too.
If you're looking for lots of good ideas for younger learners and something that your two year old will get something out of two, the Alphabet Path is great. I would just caution you not to try to do very much formal learning with a little one that young, more like letting them soak in the atmosphere.

Not *exactly* about Serendipity plans....

I just finished a great historical novel about the early colonial days, and wanted to post here in case any of you doing these wonderful Serendipity Plans this year wanted a good "mama-book" for yourself to get you completely excited about this time period!

The Winthrop Woman by Anya Seton

It's the story of Elizabeth Fones who was the niece and daughter-in-law of Gov. John Winthrop from the Mass. Bay Colony. The first third of the book takes place in England, and then follows Elizabeth to the Massachusettes Bay colony and on to Conn. It's a wonderful read and you really get a feeling for early colonial life. Fun!

After reading your review, I requested this book from my library.

I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN

It is a fantastic book - thanks so much for letting us know!

In Along the American History Path, Colonial America, what is the age range for the little kids? middle ones? and the big kids?

I was looking these over again, and I want to say a big THANK YOU! to all who helped getting them ready!

They are GREAT! and we'll be using them next semester.

Any chance of a civil war unit next?

Thanks again,
ck

As far as levels go: that's your judgment call according to your child's ability. Roughly, it's K-2, 3-4 or 5, 6-9ish. The upper end can definitely be adjusted up to high school.

Next up is the Pioneers and Westward expansion. After that, the Civil War.
