Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We used this book this past year. Both dd (10) and ds (8) really like it. I would read a couple of chapters to them at a time. We have just finished Part III Stories of New England. We also read several other living books alongside this. I guess I am wondering how others are using this book. Do you use it as a spine? Do you go in depth at my kids' age level with history, or do you pick certain big topics, like American Revolution, and cover them with living books and using the appropriate chapters from this book? I've really enjoyed the book myself since history was never my strong subject. I've discovered I have a hard time skipping around in books like this. It almost pains me to skip a chapter or two b/c I'm afraid they're going to miss something important (or maybe I will!). I guess I'm looking for input on how others handle "American History". How do go about planning a history unit without necessarily buying a pre-done curriculum? Thank you!
