Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We are going to be doing LCI next year - I am trying to figure out whether the DVDs are necessary - has anyone found them to be a big help? We did Prima Latina with the books and CD.

We used the CD with the books and that worked out just fine. I was afraid the DVD would just be something else purchased that I never had time to pop in and use. The CD was great for help with pronunciation though, and I found it very helpful.

We used the DVD because I was not confident in teaching the subject. My ds thought it was good but not necessary. I tend to overplan anyway ...

We used the DVD and really liked it. I was not confident in any of the pronunciation to teach Latin. My daughter was also able to work very independently. I am not sure how it compares to just using the CD, but we did like the DVD.

We liked using the DVD for PL. It was helpful and was used as a time-saver. I could work with one child on something and another child could be watching the DVD.

We will be using the DVD for LC1 this year.

Thank you for all the responses. It is a chunk out of the budget - but with a newborn it may be easier for all the kids to watch that when I am busy.

Do those of you who have the DVD have the CD too - I already have the books and CD.

I love having the DVDs. It has been worth every penny to me. I bought mine HERE. They sell for $41.25, almost $14- off of retail.

I do have the CDs too (had them first) and we did use them some.

We did the DVD this year, well, half the year, well, okay I'll tell the truth, maybe a quarter of the year

My dc, 6th and 4th graders, complained constantly of being bored and that the lessons were too long (sometimes they were watching for more than 20-30minutes). Then when you combined that with the other work for Latin they were to do daily, it became just too much time for us to devote to it. Now the good thing was that I discovered my dd (6th grade) can take decent notes, whereas my ds...not so good!

Personally, I thought the DVD wasn't exciting (not meant to be), you just watch the lady speaking, no frills about it, but I thought it got the job done. But with all of my kiddos' moaning, I gave in. I know nothing about Latin, so I probably shouldn't have and still doesn't mean I won't try again.

I think this is a hit or miss thing that could change from year to year and kid to kid. I'd say it depends on how much of a priority you want Latin to be...it just wasn't that high for us this year.

Good luck deciding!
