Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Today, May 3rd is Poland’s Constitution Day – the day recognizing the Polish Constitution as Europe's first modern codified national constitution (1791), and the second oldest national constitution in the world. The Polish people are an amazingly courageous and resilient people of faith. For much of their history they have been oppressed from the outside but have always kept the Faith and maintained it as central to their culture and society. Just think of the remarkable man who came from the womb of Poland to guide our Church for a quarter of a century.

May 3 is also the Feast of Our Lady, Mother of Jasna Gora and Queen of Poland. Jasna Gora is the monastary that is home to the icon of Our Lady of Czestochowa. It is not coincidental that these celebrations are tied to each other.

I am etremely proud of my Polish heritage. I have been thinking about all of this since yesterday when I received this forwarded email -
A Moment with Mary and then read Christine's post to sign this petition to support Poland in its stand against the educational policies of the European Union. Poland stands alone within the union in trying to keep Christianity as a basis for it's culture and public life. Please join me today in remembering/celebrating the Polish spirit and history and continue to pray for her in her courageous stand.

Our Lady of Czestochowa, pray for Poland!
