Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Western Civilization?   Anyone read this?   It looks good.   I have just requested it at my library.

I've read it ... they were using it for Freshman English at Southern Catholic College in Dawson (near Atlanta) Georgia.... I thought it was great -- I did a review of it for Catholic World Report and I'd be happy to send you a copy of the review if you pm me.

Hope this helps ... I thought he did a great job refuting some common misconceptions (about Galileo and other things) and had some great contemporary quotes (even one where Martin Luther grudgingly says the Catholic church gives much more in alms than any of the other religions/denominations!).

Read it an listened to the audio book. The kids met the author at St. Pat's Cathedral youth lecture series. It's a great book by a fun author.

Also, see Victory of Reason for a more in-depth (though not Catholic) read on the same general topic. Good stuff.
