I'm trying to decide what to use for my 2 third graders this coming year for math. I need something with constant review or they both forget the skills they have learned. I was unhappy with this years Modern Curriculum Press because of the lack of daily review. We have used Abeka 3 for the other kids, but I don't think it is a good fit and moves too fast for my current up and coming 3rd graders.

We start Saxon in 4th grade, but it is so pricey for two kids and I don't know if we can swing it financially for Saxon 3.

Is there anything out there that provides the review we need but doesn't have a big price tag? I'm also needing open and go lessons because I have been struggling with occasional overwhelming anxiety.

Thanks for any suggestions you can give us.

I have Saxon 3 and really liked it. I wouldn't mind sending you the big text. I don't have the student book because we used it :)

I'm a Math-U-See fan! It's scope and sequence is different so I have no idea if it's possible to use it for one year and switch to another program (especially Saxon). The third grade program would be Gamma which focuses on multiplication. It does not do any division and this is what I think would be a problem! I assume Saxon 3 has division. There are 3 review sheets with each lesson. It reviews from the previous book and then it start reviewing what is learned in the current book as the lesson progress. It is a mastery program, but don't be fooled as it does review. The test are good for review too since it is not all the new lesson. It is open and go because it has DVD lessons. I watch it with my child and then we do the worksheet together until they get it and then they do the other worksheet alone and ask a question if they get stuck. I go over it with them when they are done to make sure it is correct. I only prefer to the teacher's manual when I don't understand (for my oldest) or if my child doesn't understand and I need some more teaching tips. I actually am selling my Gamma set over on the community bulletin board. You would still need to purchase the student set for the worksheets from MUS.
