Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We have had great success this year figuring out what was blocking our sons reading. We are using Advanced Code Phonics (love this!) and have discovered that he is not "seeing" groups within words. He sees the word and individual letters, but does not automatically "see" digraphs and blends such as oa, ow, ought, etc.

My question: are there any reading materials that mark the words in their "chunks" using bold type or setting them closer together in a word?

That's prob my son's struggle too!! Are you finding this Advanced Code Phonics works?

We've used a program called Barton Reading & Spellilng. It's Orton Gillingham based. There's another one called All About Reading or All About Spelling and a program called Wilson. OG is supposed to be the way that really breaks down these phonic patterns in a more clear and concise manner for struggling readers...no matter what their reason is.

I do like the Advanced Code Phonics! For example, the spelling of the /ch/ sound can be ch or tch. You have a list of words with the first row having each of the spellings of /ch/ in bold type. You underline all the digraphs, then you map the word into columns you make (say the word, write the word) according to which spelling of the /ch/ sound it uses. It does this for all the combo sounds with other styles of worksheets and decodable word/reading pages throughout. (FYI - I'm not affiliated with this program in any way.)

I'm looking for decodable readers at a 3rd grade level that highlight the parts in the words. Something like:
g oa t. They have sheets within the ACP that we use, but I'd love to find other books that are made this way. If I can't, I'll be marking up my Seton readers and I don't want to do that since I still need them for the younger two.

Thanks! I'm just happy we are finally figuring out how to help him.

There is a site called High Noon Books that are a lot of high/low readers. I'm not sure if they have exactly what you're looking for but worth a check.
