Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hello All,

I am wondering if I need to get the 2nd grade Handwriting Without Tears book. We used 1st grade successfully, really like it, like the lines. Does the 2nd grade offer anything new or is it just refinement of 1st grade skills. It seems that 3rd grade is when they start cursive (I am glad to wait for that). So is 2nd grade worth it or should we just do homegrown copywork? Advice, input?

Thanks so much.

Hi Kara,
I think it depends on your child. My ds has really struggled with handwriting so we've stayed with HWOT through third grade (his cursive was nicer than his print by the way!). This coming school year I am switching to homegrown copywork, but only because I purchased Startwrite and I can do his in the same HWT font, which he really needs. My other ds doesn't seem to need the HWT font, so we're not going to continue using it for him (he'll be in 1st next year).
