Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Do you have one in your home? And if so, where do you hang it and how do you use it?

We have one that, honestly, was underused last year. Dh took it down to make way for a new bookcase in the dining room (aka learning room) and, not that I'm not happy to have more bookspace , but I'm really itching to get the bulletin board back up on another wall. Trouble is, I never seem to make really good use if it.

Have you heard of Fridgeschooling? I know I heard of it somewhere (Theresa?) but for the life of me I can't find the post to link. I was thinking I might try this with our bulletin board ...

Fridgeschooling was something I heard about through Barb Wright at Homeschool Adventures the Wright Way
Who got it from Faith at Dumb Ox Academy
And I intend on using it this year in my own fashion.
I plan on using a magnetic white board and small bulletin board (which I am making today, coincidentally) which both fit on the door to the school room.
I will be putting up weekly a poem, grammar rule, country, quote, latin root, saint, sunday readings, sentence to diagram (daily), and a monthly artist with the picture changing weekly . Plus for dd I will put up the letter, color, and shape of the week and the date.
I will be doing a morning meeting (new for us) where we go over these things together briefly each day. I think of it like an interactive bulletin board and ds is pretty enthused about it after having seen the pictures at Barb's blog (her son Josh is ds's penpal).
I'll get some pictures up as soon as I get it finished.

Ah yes, Theresa, this was it! I can't wait to see your pictures! I think I would like to try something like this with our bulletin board. What a great way to highlight your week's learning.

I also like the sound of your morning meeting - can you tell me (us) bit more about that?

We've used ours in the past for our Current Events Bulletin Board. We just have a big map on the wall for current events now, and put up articles, etc. around it, and put colored dots on the map according to the current events.

We don't have much wall space, but use the doors too. I like some of these ideas, particularly for my visual children.

Funny you mention bulletin boards, Dawn. I just purchased one that I was hoping to use for a Faith Corner of sorts - I'm still playing around with the idea and I'm not sure what specific things I will do with it. Maybe these ideas will help generate some ideas for me!

I like to display current art the kids have done and a calendar, but in our new set up I haven't put one up yet. I do like the idea of having one for stuff, but like you Dawn I never seem to maximize it's potential and it becomes old hat too often. Love the frideschooling idea, just not sure we'll incorporate it or not

Theresa, can't wait to hear your version if you care to share

Oh! I love bulletein boards! We just bought another! One is used for the liturgical year/prayer corner. I backed it with construction paper in the whatever color we are in the liturgical year. Another is used as picture study/lastest creation by sons. I've got another where I stick Chinese flashcards so we squeeze in some new Chinese vocab words for a "I spy" game. I update it once a month. Often enough that we don't get bored with it. Yet not too frequent that I get discouraged to update it.

I probably prefer white boards but I do have a few bulletin boards. One bulletin board is used to highlight the artist of the month. This past year I added another bulletin board to hold all the self portraits of the artists.

I have another bulletin board with a world map and map pins. At one time, not recently more like years ago, we picked a country to highlight, stuck a map pin, hung its flag and prayed for that country. (More or less a Kimberly Hahn idea and the bible and catechism recommend praying for the leaders of nations.) I kept the bible passage (I Tim 2) First of all, then, I ask that supplications, prayers, petitions, and thanksgivings be offered for everyone, for kings and for all in authority, that we may lead a quiet and tranquil life in all devotion and dignity. This is good and pleasing to God our savior

We briefly turned to this bulletin board in an attempt to highlight rivers of the world. The Five in A Row book recommended keeping some sort of a river book. I tried to stick a pin in rivers we heard about in our reading. But that didn't seem to interest anyone except me.

One time we used a bulletin board after each person drew a picture to represent the Robert Louis Stevenson poem "The Swing".(I think this idea came from the Serl Primary Language Lessons) All the pictures and the poem were hung on this board. This was fun and I thought at the time that we should repeat this activity. (We didn't but maybe I'll remember to do this again soon - like tomorrow.)

Ok, since you asked! I put up a post on my blog about how we intend to use our bulleting board this year. I am actually pretty psyched about it as I think it will be a great tool to help us get to all the little things we keep forgetting to get around to. KWIM?
Fridgeschooling sort of thing

My mom used a bulletin board for the liturgical year, but used different colored fabric for the background to reflect the seasons. We had symbols and biblical quotes and images to rotate around the year.

Jenn, you are so lucky to have been brought up that way! I think that is just beautiful!

Thank you everyone for sharing your ideas on bulletin boards! I had dh hang mine back up this morning.

I really like the idea of a liturgical/faith corner and I was thinking of outlining my board with the liturgical color in paper or maybe even duct tape.

I also once had a current events board - though this year we plan to make it a weekly current events notebook (binder). I like the map idea, though!

Theresa - your post is wonderful! I am so inspired by you!
