Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My 8 year old dd has a request. She likes childhood of famous americans and is also reading Ballet shoes and The Saturdays right now but wants a book similar to a biography but that tells one person's life from young childhood on but a "normal" person, not Laura Ingalls on the prarie because no one lives like that now, she says. She's not saying she doesn't like those, just that she'd like something like I describe here. Any thoughts?Anne of Green Gables? We don't have this so I'd have to purchase it.

Beverly Cleary's books (Beezus and Ramona, etc.)

Betsy-Tacy (not modern times, but the first several books are just wonderful for a girl your daughter's age)

What about some of the mystery books like Nancy Drew or Trixie Belden?
