Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Good Morning, Ladies,

I have been searching high and low for recent discussions of the Our Goal and Our Guide series, and I may just be overlooking it. I learned about this series from the Wildflowers and Marbles blog (hi, Jenn!) Maybe what I am looking for is a shot in the arm or a kick in the pants to just jump in and get started with dd for 9th grade this fall (or this summer...) I see on W & M's 9th grade course plans that there is a selection to be read and narrated. Simple scares me. I was wondering if Jenn or anyone else who has used this series could give me an notes on how they used this series and how it went.

Maybe I am just looking for hand-holding.

Wow! 60 views and no responses to this thread!

Let's see, Michele - start here....on this very informative older thread on this fantastic series of books:

Our Goal and Our Guides

My oldest finished the series last year, and my oldest son begins them this year. They're thorough and an excellent high school religion series!

What kind of hand-holding do you need, Michele? These books are really set up to read and run with! Don't let simple scare you!!! I suppose we've all been in-culturated to think that if we're not requiring 8 gazillion assignments to dissect a chapter of reading then we're not effectively conveying information to our students. Allow yourself some perspective - historically, education has never consisted of all that jazz.

So...your homework: EMBRACE SIMPLE!!!!!

Well...I assigned a certain amount of reading from the book each week, we'd discuss via a narration. Sometimes through our discussion, we'd dig further into a topic using the CCC, or another book. I liked using the end of unit questions for my end of term examination questions, and often used one of them as an essay prompt for the end of term examination. (You can get the answer keys through Adoremus - or at least you used to be able to) That's it. Both my daughter and I really enjoyed the series! It's thorough, understandable, and is good for discussion! If your child has been studying the Baltimore Catechism 1 and 2, then this series will complement and further explain. My daughter thought some of it fit more in the category of reviewing, but she appreciated the explanations which were helpful in a practical-apply-this-in-real-life sense. It prompted great discussion. We're using the series again - my oldest son will begin using it next year - and our approach worked well, so I won't be changing it up with him.

Hope this helps in your considering the series, Michele!
