Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Let's talk training for the teacher. Besides the Original CM Series, what is a *must read* for educators wishing to implement the CM philosophy? What other training should we undertake to become a more effective teacher?

This summer I will finally have a bit of time to give some lengthy attention to furthering my education as a mom and teacher and I'd love suggestions for my little retreat.

I've wanted to get to this thread but I keep running out of time. I don't have too much time this morning but really wanted to give you some resources to consider for a little "teacher training".

Ambleside Schools International offers an 18 part video series that I highly recommend! The first 7 videos have study guides that go along with the material in that video and they're so helpful! The questions at the end of the study guide can really "bring it home" in a sense! I think they're working on adding more study guides to the rest of the series. Really take your time with this - commonplace it as you watch!!! You'll come away with so much refreshment from this series! This is MY FAVORITE mini-boost if I need to refresh my focus!

Here are the whole collection of discussions we had on the series.

Here is a thread I started a few summers ago on my at-home retreat time:

Home Education Retreat-at-Home

In that thread I talk a lot about how I enjoyed several resources from Simply Charlotte Mason. These are very well done and really great in hitting the practical spots of where the rubber meets the road. I really recommend them for getting a sense of **applying** a CM education.

Finally, I LOVE going through the archive database of Parents Review Articles. Sometimes I just go read a few that sound interesting...other times, I scroll through the entire list looking for themes I'm really interested in learning more about - like Plutarch, or narration, or Shakespeare. I ALWAYS print the article I read about so I can mark it up. I learn A LOT from these articles.

Hope that gives you a start, Lara!   Most of these recommended resources are free!! I know I only linked 3 ideas, but within each idea is enough meat to tackle a number of topics and would take a big chunk of time so hopefully what's here could keep your *Mother Nurture* nourished for some time! :) If I had to pick a starting place, I'd probably start with the Ambleside International videos and keep a nice notebook while following along. By the way, you're welcome to resurrect any of those older discussion threads from the Ambleside videos! Others would probably welcome revisiting those discussions, and some might not even know about them and your bumping might inspire fresh conversations! Just mentioning in case you'd like to post but aren't sure about posting on an older thread.

Happy reading and teacher training!

These resources look awesome! Thanks! I'd love to go to a conference, but can't swing it this year.

Can I recommend some books? I just finished The Living Page by Laurie Bestvater. It is on the importance of notebooking a la CM. This book was simply inspirational to me.   Another book that helped me in teaching the CM way was When Children Love to Learn by Elaine Cooper.
