Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have fallen in love with the writings of G K Chesterton! I suppose that comes as no surprise to many.

My first main exposure came through EWTN's series on Chesterton - Apostle of Common Sense. Isn't that title so true? (Did anyone hear the one about 'Uneducating the educated' if you haven't you must!)

What I would like to know is how do you start to expose your children to his writings? Is there any study units or books out there for children? I would love to know!

Anne,
Your're in luck!

Nancy Carpentier Brown just wrote a study unit for one of Chesterton's Fr. Brown Mysteries. It's available at Hillside Education. I just finished reading it myself. Brown has vocabulary words and everything in it to simplify the reading for high school students. I'm sure junior high could read it as well.

And if you go to the Heart and Mind archives and scroll down a bit under Unit Studies you'll see a unit study on Chesterton's epic poem Lepanto (also by Nancy Brown).

That should keep you busy for awhile.

Cay beat me to it! I knew I just saw a unit study on Chesterton at the FCL conference this past weekend. I couldn't remember if it was at the Emmanual Books table or the Hillside Education table.

ALSO . . . .
In addition to the study guide for The Blue Cross, Nancy has written adaptations for four Father Brown stories for the 8-12 age group. They will be available from Hillside late summer. (The article Mare cites is also by Nancy Carpentier Brown.)

Thank you so much for all your feedback so far! This is wonderful - I will be looking into all your excellent links and articles.

Thank you also for the direction to the Heart and Mind website - it looks to have many other great things!
