Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

One of my children needs to improve his auditory memory, and one book suggested giving "silly directions." I started playing this with the kids--and it might save my sanity!

Here's how it goes: mom gives silly directions to a child, child repeats back the directions and then performs silly task. We go around the room and the person who performed the task gives the next give silly directions to another. We invent silly directions such as "put a hat on your head then spin like a ballerina." As the game progresses, the number of instructions to remember increases. (note: mom can veto any instruction.)

And here's how this might save my sanity...I include tasks like "pick up the hat on the floor, put it on your head and dance around the room then PUT THE HAT IN THE CLOSET. Okay, they've figured out that I'm also asking them to tidy up, but it's fun. They sometimes also including similar tidy-up tasks in their instructions to each other.

Plus, its educational. Really, truly. At least, it's suppose to help build auditory memory and the ability to follow multi-step instructions. We just started this week so it's too early to notice any benefit other than the tidying. If you do already this game with your children or play similar learning games, please share the results.
