Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Do any of you formally (or informally) teach logic to your children? I was re-reading TWTM and came across her logic recommendations.

What do you use at what ages? Anything you have tried and hated?

Thanks!

Molly, I really love the Traditional Logic books from Memoria Press. I have used them with both my dd and ds. I do have the DVD which my ds loved, but my dd would only watch if I forced her to (she did not understand the lesson, but this was only in Book 2).

We have stopped with Material Logic. I am waiting for the DVD to be released. I would do the class, but we are on a different time schedule over here! I started these logic books in the 7th grade, but I think you can use them later.

I really believe that logic is an important skill and one that is not well versed in ps (I am a great example of that ... lol)! There is also the book of informal fallacies. I cannot remember who wrote it, two brothers I believe. It is a fun book to use with children. Mine really loved that as well. I will try and find that information and post it later.

Thanks Carole! Are you thinking of Fallacy Detective (or something like that)? We actually have that on a shelf somewhere. Guess I should dig it out!

I think I will try the Traditional Logic. That is what Susan Wise Bauer recommends, I believe.

Yes, I am thinking of Fallacy Detective. It is a pretty fun book and easy enough for the younger children to understand as well. I seem to remember that they may have written a second book as well.

You will love Traditional Logic. You can learn along with your children (if you are like me). And I think you can cover both books in a year although we may have taken a bit longer!

We've been using Critical Thinking Compay's " A Case of Red Herrings" and Mind Benders with the Fifth Grader - at TWTM recommendation. He loves it. My dh does, too. We actually started using Red Herrings at dinner and all but the 2 yo jump in with questions. It's been a lot of fun. So, for your youngers, that might be a good way to start them.
