Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I don't have half as many books as many of you, but I'm constantly asking the girls "do we have this one?" when something on my wish list comes through on Paperback Swap.

If you use anything to help keep track of and organize your books and curriculum, please do mention it here so I can glean off of your wisdom? Free or not - I'm willing to pay at this point to keep from getting duplicates.

I love the idea of Library Thing and even purchased a cue cat scanner so I could easily scan my books into the system.

This was my grand idea while pregnant with Lydia (who will be 17 months old next week). The cue cat scanner is still sitting on my desk, underneath a pile of papers. But, that's just me! I still think it's a great tool and really do plan on using it.

I can't remember how many books you can have with a free account (100 maybe?) but you can either pay $10/year for unlimited books or $25 for a lifetime membership.

Computer - free, I organize our books by type and subject. So, our non-fiction books are grouped on 2 shelves, early readers on another, chapter books on a couple, picture books, board books, etc. It's not a perfect system, but this year I re-did it and my boys are pretty good about keeping up with the system.

I have downloaded a program called Libra from here... but admit that I have not taken the time to enter in all my books yet.

We just entered our books into Librarything and it is working very well. If I am looking for a book I can show the picture to the boys and they are way more likely to find it.

Also, you can enter "tags" for each book so if I want us to read certain books in a particular month or season, or by time period, I just search and we can easily pull everything. This is very helpful if you like to read about saints, artists, inventors, etc., in their feast month or day, or by date of birth or event.

Now if I could find a system to keep them from migrating all over the house. So far I have been unsuccessful with limiting the number of books being carried all over, and left all over. This morning I told the boys I was going to figure out a system to keep on top of what each person has out (and leaves out) but I have no idea how to do that at this time. I am sure someone must have devised a system like this, other than the library of course.

God Bless,
Barb

This is a really great idea!!! I wonder whether Readerware can do this, I'm going to have a look in the morning.

Erin,

Did you ever discover if Readerware could do the tags? I am considering getting it again (had it on my other computer, ran out of the 30 day trial, never got around to purchasing it, then the computer crashed (hadn't made too much progress anyway at that point!)). Now I have really slow download time on this computer and am wondering about these details before I go choosing something...

CatholicMommy,

There is a category section, you have to manually decide and enter in. For example for one book I may categorise it as; American History, Civil War, 17th Century, picture book. Then if I type into the search function any of these words the title comes up.

I have so many more to add, it's a great resource.
