Do you have your children wear them every day?
Did they just wear them when you were going out?
What did you - Mom - wear? Did you have a "teacher uniform" of sorts too?

We wore them if we went on field trips or to Mass during the week. Not if we were going to Target or anything like that. They came in handy when we had to go to a funeral on a Friday too--none of their other church clothes were suitably serious looking.
I didn't get a uniform for me...unless you count wearing pretty much the same thing day in and day out as a uniform!
They did wear them almost every day the first two weeks. Their choice, not my doing. We took "school pictures" on the first day too in the uniforms.

Each year we get a tee shirt that is our "uniform" for weekday field trips. So, perhaps not what you meant. 
We liked last years alot, it was a water color style picture of a globe and "This is the real world and it is my classroom" written around the globe.

my boys wear a navy blue polo shirt every "school" day, usually they change out of it when it is time to go to afternoon activities, sports, scouts, etc.
They keep them on for dr appts, store trips at 10am, etc.
At first I thought I wanted a "uniform" so we would look neat and presentable at a moments notice when out and about during school hours.
as my kids have grown a bit,I find that it is a BIG aide for them to focus on learning.
if my soccer player has on his "uniform" of choice, then he is dribbling a ball all throughout the house and is so distracted!!!

We get them made at a local store, but our ideas come from Cafe Press.
Tee shirts
We think this years might be "It doesn't resemble school and we are rarely home,so why call it 'homeschooling'" My dd is leaning toward "I am in school and you are talking in class" and my ds is voting for "Warning unsocialized homeschooler" but I think those have a bit too much 'tude.

I have considered uniforms every year since we started homeschooling. My dd looks at the Lands End School Uniforms catalog and circles all the styles she likes. My ds's see the catalog and run for cover! I think I would use them as Lisa mentions, to try and keep the focus on learning. My problem is I'm afraid it's just going to be one more thing to "police". I guess I'm thinking, if I buy uniforms, the kids will have to wear them, it couldn't be an option. If this is the case in your home, how do you manage this?

We;ve been considering uniforms for many years - it just never seemed to happen for us. I'm making a concerted effort to get that sorted out this year.
My original thought was that we would just wear them for outings, but my husband really wants our kids in them every day. I'm OK with that. He agrees with Lisa - it will help the kids get into the right frame of mind for learning. It also enusres that when my children are asked to serve a funeral, they are already appropriately dressed underneath the alb.
I plan on Brian and myself wearing something akin to uniforms - at least for outings. Since we work together from home, he doesn't need something different for an office setting. Besides, he was in the military. He's totally comfortable with uniforms. 
The trouble I'm having is that uniform companies don't make teacher uniforms for pregnant ladies. At least, I haven't found one as yet. I think I might just be able to sew up a couple of maternity skirts in navy and khaki with a few white button-up blouses.

hhhhmmm....I have been thinking about this, because we did try uniforms a while back, as I mentioned in the other thread. My dd's liked them, my son didn't have an opinion (I think in his mind, clothes are clothes .)
But they didn't work like I had hoped. And I have wondered about that.
Then I saw what some of you mentioned - to keep the focus on "learning."
So that made me wonder - we don't really have "set school hours." At least, we never have. I am unschooly in that sense, I guess - we just do what we do when we do it - we are just as likely to be doing "learning activities" at 6pm as at 10 am - and we don't call them that. We are....just doing what we do, and happen to be learning, too.
I am wondering if those families who do more "set school hours" may also be the ones where uniforms work. Don't know if I am making sense. But when I see mention of "changing before going to play" that makes me think that you have "defined" school hours during the day. Is that right? (I went to Catholic School, and yep, every day I had to come home and change before going out to play  ).

re:"set" school hours.
you know, again, I think our family dynamic has shifted over the years. i think we used to learn at all hours of the day and night, dh is out of town every Sat and so Sat was a big "learning' day for us,etc.
however, I have one ds in High School now, I have the oldest four in Parochial/travel sports of some kind, year round. These events/practices/games, etc take place outside of traditional "school time" which then means in part that our homeschool has HAD to shift to "traditional school hours".
We DO have to set goals of getting certain projects, experiments,seat work done by a certain time because soccer/football/baseball is looming on the horizon.
an unexpected HUGE benefit for all of us has been a more efficient/balanced/effective use of our time. which, unfortunately, is a part of "real life" , most jobs outside the home, etc and an area in which I hate to say I was very lax in the past.
I tend to now think of school as my kids primary vocation or "job" right now.
dh has a work "uniform" of sorts for his job (one he detests, btw ) but at a glance even my littlest can know that daddy is working or going to work.
same with my oldest ds, who completed his first year of Catholic High School last year. He LOVED the uniform, tie and all!! He felt very mature, business-like, and acted it too! (well, in a 14-15 y/o way )
so, I put on usually my khaki's and a button down shirt in the morning, the kids don their navy blue polos (from Wal-Mart or Target, btw- they hold up great!!) and navy blue or khaki cargo type pants.
Laundry is easier, also!!

Sewcrazy, these t shirts are hilarious! I love the one that says, "I homeschool because I don't believe in the mass production of human beings"...not that I'd be brave enough to wear it...
