We do school year-round  . Sometimes? I feel like a freak about that. But we do it year-round because of health issues and my kids get rowdy and listless if we don't.
I was just wondering how many other people here do year-round? I'm feeling a little alone with that lately ... and, considering we're almost done with our school year (two weeks left), it seems at odds with, well, everyone else we know.

We school year round...this will be our 2nd summer officially schooling, but we did it with preschool too. We are very relaxed, eclectic schoolers...but we still keep a light "routine" going all year round. My kids just do better with routine!
And, this way, we can school 3-4 days a week and not have to worry about making sure we school 5 days a week for so many weeks. It sorta takes the pressure off of me!
Those are 2 of the biggest reasons we do it! And we love it!!

Not year round so much as "modified"  .
It is HOT in the desert in the Summer. It is a totally different kind of "hot" than what I grew up with back east. Like weeks with temps being up above 110. Going to the store is a hassle because you get 3rd degree burns from the steering wheel, the air inside the car hurts to breathe, and if the store is in a 2-3 mile range, your car won't even have cooled off yet. They keep the stores cold, so in and out of the extreme heat/cold a few times, and your body is exhausted. The playgrounds and parks are deserted. Really. So...why not school then? It is like being "snowed in" during the winter in other climates, I am sure. Because, our "Winter" is LOVELY, and there are all kinds of fairs and festivals, etc. So, we take LOTS of breaks during the winter months.
But this does leave us with a very non-traditional "school year" obviously.

We school year round, though our summer schedule is lighter than the other seasons(due to baseball and tennis). Actually, just June and the first part of July are a lighter schedule. The rest is just the same routine. I know that my kids can't take a nine week vacation from certain subjects, nor can they take a vacation from the routine. Even a few days off routine makes us all binkers in this house, and our routine is fairly relaxed. Luckily the one and only family we get together with on a regular basis also does the year round thing. That helps a lot.

We go year-round. We take breaks when we need them and usually have a lighter schedule during summer.
I'm totally with JenniferS, we NEED routine, and I don't want the kids to forget so much with a big break.

We go year round because my son needs it. I would like some time off to plan and regroup, but that's not possible. In the past, I hsed year round until a child could read, but I did reduce the work in the summer. (I have three kids on the autism spectrum.)

We're pretty much year-rounders as well. With so much going on in our family, it helps to have three extra months of wiggle room to complete 'book work'. I have to say that even if we took the summer 'off' we'd still be learning. I'll bet that's true of most homeschooling families. Our entire home atmosphere is one of curiosity and learning. that's why I don't worry too much about missing something.

We're year rounders, because dh travels quite a bit and we like to take off with him. Considering the amount of time it takes to prepare for a trip, and recover from a trip, we take *lots* of time off. Year round works really well for us!

We are year-rounders here. I feel we certainly need the routine. 
Also, in the summer is when we dig deeper into science(with a lot a experiments) and art (we load up on art projects at this time too).
I also keep a little book work in the "loose" schedule that we keep. This helps me not to panic too much when I have to fill out state reports-I never seem to get to far behind with this schedule.

This is our first year as official year rounders, but in the past we have used the summer time for special subjects like cursive, map skills, etc...

I'm thinking about it, especially with a new baby "due" August 21. I'm sure we'll be running the air conditioning a lot anyway with me in this condition, so it's not like it'll be too hot to sit and concentrate on arithmetic or Spanish vocabulary words! While much of what we've been doing is pretty "schooly" rather than fun-project-based, and is probably going to continue to be that way compared to what a lot of families do, I don't see it as something to be glad to have a three-month break from. Feeling free to keep working in summer gives us more flexibility during the rest of the year. I'm planning to order some new curriculum and begin some new subjects ASAP. First grade will be whatever we're up to when September comes.

We keep working during the summer here. We took the whole month of Dec off to do Advent things and get to Mass more. We also take a week off when Daddy is home over Spring Break. We will take some time off for our two summer birthdays. We won't be where I want us to be by May, so we'll keep working through June and July.

We're year-rounders as well, and always have been. We take the entire month of December off, and any weeks that the grandparents come to visit. We also take Hubby's vacation off (of course!), and any days that will be interrupted by a doctor's appointment (lots of those- one of my 7yo's specialists is a 2hr drive each way ).

Oh, me too! What has worked this past year is taking just a week off between terms so that I have the time to make sense of all of the scribbled notes in my notebook  ! Also, Hubby drops me off at the library at least a couple of evenings a month. I find a quiet table, pull out my laptop and notebook, and plan out a least a few weeks' worth of lessons.

We school year round and i love it. I can take breaks here and there during the school year without worrying about being behind. During the summer, it's too hot to go out until the afternoon so perfect reason to continue on with school. This is our 2nd year homeschooling and my dd's are in K and PreK so our schedule is pretty light anyway. I think we'll just keep going with all our subjects this summer. Last year we took a break b/c i had a baby and then family visited and then the holidays came up. It was no biggie to take off all that time since we had schooled all summer long. In May we'll be moving to Jersey but will spend the entire summer with my parents in FL, while dh is in training. We'll have fun but it's just so hot there so i expect to be spending lots of time indoors until the afternooon, when it cools down some. In our hometown, there is a place where they teach kids how to cook. Sounds like fun so im going to check it out. I might enroll them into karate(dd1 only) and ballet(dd2) while we're there too.

Well here in Australia we do year around, Our school year (our state is New South Wales so some states vary a little) starts at the end of January which is the last month of our summer, we then study for ten weeks, take a break for two (usually this falls at Easter time) these are in April, our autumn holidays, we then start again for another ten weeks and break for two in July, our winter holidays, another ten week term brings us to our spring break in September/October and then we continue until mid December when we break at Christmas till the end of January, our summer holidays a break here of six weeks.

We are year rounders here too! But it feels a little different in the summer. School is out side and there is a lot of nature study.
We just kind of fell into year round schooling and I think it works pretty well!
We don't do ALL subjects in the summer though. Things like math, literature, writing to name a few:)

We go year round round with a lighter schedule in the summer because I like my children to go outside, and have more outings in the summer.
Since I either have a little one or am pregnant all the time, going year round affords us the most flexibility. I can take days off as needed and not feel guilty about it.
