Someone asked on the Waldorf thread if there were other arts-based curriculums out there that weren't so Waldorf based. Several of my friends here are really into Enki Education. The mom who discovered it described it as Waldorf, plus a more international focus, minus all that wacky Steiner stuff.

I know only a little about Waldorf and even less about Enki, but I'm wondering if anyone else has heard of it. The founder is Waldorf trained.

Enki approaches were used last year in my local homeschool playgroup/co-op which was made up of 2-5yo. I was not that involved but I definitely saw lots of Waldorfy things: circle time, lots of art, storytelling, lots and lots of handwork (there was even a spinoff moms' handwork group). No one in the group here is Catholic, but I think it attracted these moms because they wanted a very child-centered, respectful, beautiful approach to education.

Anyway, that's about the extent of my knowledge in this area, but I wanted to throw this resource out there as an alternative for those of you who are interested and also see if anyone else has had any experience with Enki. My friends here have raved about the Enki early childhood materials and I'm trying to decide between buying those and buying the Donna Simmons kindergarten book for my 3yo.

There are members of a secular group in my hometown that use Enki. I've looked at the site before, but I personally wasn't drawn to it. I'm not in contact with those women anymore, so this is probably not a very helpful reply.

It's funny, but I saw that site for the first time last week through a comment on my blog. I found the site a little hard to navigate, so didn't look much into it. Maybe it is worth a second explore.
