Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My three oldest children started taking music lessons a month ago. What a blessing! A young sister and brother team come to my home (oh ya!) and the sister teaches dd and 8yods piano (on a keyboard.) The brother teaches my 12yods guitar. All are enjoying the lessons in their own way.

Yesterday, I was doing my usual morning stuff when my 12yods started asking me questions about spelling like "Mom, how do you spell 'awesome'?" The first couple of times I answered without much thought. When the questions kept coming, I finally stopped my activities. You see, this son is my late bloomer academically. He is a bright young man in a "minority thinker" way. He thinks very globally (a lot like me) and he is gifted in his gross motor skills (like his dad) so he struggles with the details. So here he is, just turned 12, and his fingers are able to conform to the fine motor skill of playing a guitar AND he is writing his own songs! He even started his own binder to collect his songs and song ideas in...hooray!

Years ago when I joined the CCM yahoolist, one of my first posts was about this same boy and how much he loved music...how he would make up his own songs...how we listened to different types of music on the radio one long ride...how he couldn't hold a pencil easily...how he had difficulty remembering phonemes. This all just feels so full circle, and I couldn't be happier for him, for us.

When my children were younger and I was younger these types of "ah ha" moments used to happen more regularly. As they grow older, these moments come less often. Yet come they do and when they do they feel that much more precious to me.

Love,
