Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Related to the getting outside in winter thread, we hike in the woods a fair amount even in the cold and this fall I have been trying to figure out how to manage 10 month old DD, coats and the baby carrier to keep both of us comfy (last winter I could put her in a front carrier, wear my DH's winter coat and zip her up inside, but this year she won't fit).

Yesteday I found the Nori and it looks like the perfect solution, so I thought I'd share my discovery.

That's pretty neat looking, though pricey.

Usually by the time my little ones are steady enough to go in the backpack, in they go. We have 2 backpacks...one for me and one for DH, and we have usually had 2 little ones who needed to be in a carrier for hikes.

Now that the almost 4 yo is heavier and prefers to walk on his own, it's just the dainty 2yo in the backpack. And when I forget the pack, she usually winds up on my shoulders, which she seems to love. Not that that position is easy or practical for uphill hikes in places without steps! But it works in a pinch.

That's pretty neat looking, but it wouldn't work for back carries. Last year I bought a big wool coat, and just put it over both of us in the sling. I have a sweater that I do the same thing with. I don't bother with a coat for the baby, maybe just a pullover.

Funny story, when I was passing out candy on ToT, I had Molly on my back and my sweater around both of us, At one point she was asleep and had her head tucked into my neck. A girl about 12 asked if I was supposed to be a hunchback!    Then a little later when she was awake and looking around, a little boy asked if I was dressed as a two-headed monstor!

I really like the look of this Sara--thanks for the recommendation!

[BTW, Lisa, I love your hunchback story! I have an Irish Walking Cape I like to wear on crisp autumn days. On Halloween, more than one person asked if I was supposed to be Red Riding Hood!]

I love it!

The site says it will work for back-carries - you just turn it around. There are pictures here. I'm more comfortable with my babes on my front though, even when they get heavy (which DD is - 37lbs already - YIPES!), because they always seem to get whacked in the face with branches when they're on my back. Apparently I lack coordination in that respect.

I like the Maya Wrap because it doesn't have any padding. You can snuggle baby close to you and wear your coat over the sling. Baby still needs a snow suit but it is much less bulky than a traditional sling.

There is a mom in our parish's homeschool group who just started an online store for all of these types of baby carriers.
Baby Slings and Things
I'm going to buy a new sling soon (not sure which kind), but I haven't comparison shopped for the prices (though I'll probably buy from Jennifer, if only to suport a fellow Catholic homeschooler ). She has a great selection.
