Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have a long post on my blog about bugs and spiders (lots of links) found on our property recently, and a couple of pictures of a cool snake skin we found!

Thought someone here might be interested in taking a look! And if anyone has any ideas on what our snake skin actually is, and what we should do if we run across him in real life, I'd sure appreciate it! :-)

I left a note on your blog. Your boys are so cute lined up in front of the fireplace!

MamaJen,

It looks like a black rat skin to me based on its length - and the fact we are in your habitat so to speak and have seen many of this type. (I am on the CHANGE loop too just around the corner from you). We had a similar experience with a black rate snake this summer only ours was still attached to its skin! My oldest LOVES snakes so instead of running away she had to catch it! I have a great picture of her positively glowing with pride at her new pal. She did not get this from her mom. Glad to see you here!

Oh my goodness - your daughter picked up the snake?? Oh, wow! You and your daughter are *way* braver than me!! :-)

I'm glad to hear that the general concensous is that it is a "rat snake", and to know that they are harmless (even beneficial, given my rodent phobia!) Still - I'm not too thrilled at the idea of my kids running into one still in its skin!! I grew up way up North, where the snakes were few and far between and most likely to be little garter snakes (sp?) The idea of having lots of different snakes here in the South, including several venamous ones, is a bit intimidating to me. I'm trying to appreciate it all the critters as an opportunity to appreciate God's wonderful world - but I'm still *trying*, lol!

Thanks for the comments! :-)
