Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have used Apologia for a couple of years now. This year, doing Astronomy with my oldest and reading the Land Creatures book with #2 has made me reach my limit on Young Earth discussions. For now, I feel I need to walk away from Apologia, which is fine, but my oldest was looking forward to doing Swimming Creatures next year (frankly, so was I). Any suggestions on an alternative? Thanks!

I found a reference to a book by Rachel Carson that looks interesting. I think it's called the Sea Around us...might be a nice book to read along with a sea study. I don't know of any textbooks that have the sea as a theme but there are some good documentaries. The Blue Planet comes to mind.

How old is your child?

The Seaside Naturalist is nice.

For an elementary child, Thornton Burgess's Seaside Book for Children is also a nice living resource.

An older elem/middle-schooler might enjoy Alvin & Virginia Silverstein's Life in a Tidal Pool

Maybe some of these will be possibilities for you.

Sally

Sorry, I guess I should have mentioned her age. She is a 10 year old rising 6th grader who is a very willing and interested/curious student. The Seaside Naturalist looks so interesting! I wish my local library had it. Do you know if it would be age appropriate for her? Thanks for the other suggestions as well, I will check them out.

I ordered a used copy of the Seaside Naturalist. I can't wait to get it!

I think you'll like it. I've actually slotted it into my rising 6th grader's year. There's also 101 Questions About the Seashore, which is quite informative and could be fun for this age.
