Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Oh, the jokes....

Hey Mac"Barnacle,"

Do you have any recommendations for any living books with barnacles in them?

I started to write a book a couple of years ago with the barnacle being a super hero...yes, please don't laugh too terribly hard....

Please, Maria...write that book!

I can't think of any off the top of my head, but a quick Amazon search produced the following results:

Oh Barnacles! (a Sponge Bob Book...I have never watched Sponge Bob)
Illuminated Ocean Barnacle (Medium)
Barnacle Parp's Chainsaw Guide: Buying, Using, and Maintaining Gas & Electric Chain Saws
Barnacles : Structure, function, development and evolution ($290!!)
Barnacle Remover

There was that 1928 classic Barnacles in Nature and Myth, but I was a bit put off by the description: This volume had its origin in a post-prandial discourse delivered in 1926 before the "Sette of Odd Volumes", and was intended to see the light as one of the Opuscula issued by that Society by and to its members. In the process of preparing that discourse, the author made discovery of a vast number of references to the subject in the works of early zoologists, botanists and thaumatogenists, constituting a veritable literature of the subject, and as the result, the present compilation ensued. Illustrated.

Thaumatogenists?

Maria, please write a book.

BTW, somewhere out there is a photo of me in a barnacle costume at the Naturalist's Ball. If I can ever find it, I'll post it.

Now you've got me going!!

On my search for books about barnacles, I found this poem:

Barnacles.

My soul is sailing through the sea,
But the Past is heavy and hindereth me.
The Past hath crusted cumbrous shells
That hold the flesh of cold sea-mells
About my soul.
The huge waves wash, the high waves roll,
Each barnacle clingeth and worketh dole
And hindereth me from sailing!

Old Past let go, and drop i' the sea
Till fathomless waters cover thee!
For I am living but thou art dead;
Thou drawest back, I strive ahead
The Day to find.
Thy shells unbind! Night comes behind,
I needs must hurry with the wind
And trim me best for sailing.

Okay, here are a few books (in no particular order), but none comes close to fitting the bill like yours WILL, Maria.

Newberry: The Life and Times of a Maine Clam (Unabridged) by Vincent Dethier Newberry is a curious clam. He also has a very sore neck! When the local doctor prescribes a purple muffler for the pain, Newberry takes it all in stride, and what follows makes for some very funny listening! From starfish to sandpipers, barnacles to crickets, the whole crew of Maine shorelife is dazzlingly brought to life

In One Tidepool: Crabs, Snails, and Salty Tails (HIGHLY RATED House-that-Jack-Built-style book)

Teeth, Tails, and Tentacles

Christian Liberty Nature Reader 3(one of the sections is on barnacles according to my research)

What the Sea Left Behind

There's a book called "Barnacles Eat With Their Feet" but it has mixed reviews and sounds sort of picture textbookish.

I love this title, but I doubt this travel book has a lot of details about the mighty barnacle: The headstrong houseboat; Or, Barnacles are better than blowouts, but beware of a leaky basement

Meet the arthropods
An introduction to such creatures as barnacles, butterflies, centipedes, and pillbugs. The text includes information on planning field trips, identifying and collecting arthropods, and projects to do at home. Color illustrations accompany the text.

What's in the Tide Pool?

In One Tidepool: Crabs, Snails, and Salty Tails (HIGHLY RATED House-that-Jack-Built-style book)

I'm ready to head for my library...

Okay, this is random but as a "Mad About You" fan from way back, I just have to tell you about the character Paul Buchman (a documentary film maker).

His film on the first Iraqi-born janitor to work at the Pentagon lost to "The Trouble with Barnacles" but Paul won the door prize, a professional tea brewer.

I know, I know, I have problems

Oh, and I am looking forward to seeing your picture, MacBeth!

Thanks for being such a good sport ...

I was searching my computer for The Adventures of Captain Barnacle and I hope that the story isn't on the computer that crashed ...

Thanks MacBeth and Jen L. for all of your recommendations...I will try again later to search for said Adventures...it was a fun story....

When I was in college, I also wrote a story called Captain Jumpabunji and the Mutating Tree.   Insight into my mind...I think my grey matter should be called tie-dye matter...

Happy Easter! He is Risen!
