Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Today, Nov. 7 would be Marie Curie's 144th birthday. Google's image today honors her.

Found in looking around today that Marie Curie is the symbol of International Year of Chemistry 2011. (This year 2011 commemorates the 100th anniversary of Marie Sklodowska-Curie's receipt of the 1911 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.)

And it sounds like France and Poland have some sort of declaration of this year as the Year of Marie Curie as well.

Just seeing this but would love to do something this week to celebrate her life and follow a bit of a rabbit trail.

I love that she is Polish born, so we will focus some on that heritage which she shares with our family.

~ first woman ever to win the Nobel
~ first researcher to win in multiple sciences (physics and chemistry)

Resources anyone?

I have Radioactive: a tale of love and fallout sitting right here beside me, ready to start today! I'll let you know all about it as soon as I read it!

My son (13) is reading The Story of Madame Curie right now. For high school I would recommend Madame Curie, a biography written by her daughter Eve. I read it when I was about 17 and really liked it.

We borrowed Marie Curie More Than Meets the Eye from the library. It's part of the Inventors' Special movie series. We'll be watching at the end of our day

That's a great series. The same people have made one about musicians and artists. Very enjoyable!
