Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Donna,

I believe you can "preview" this book online at www.christianbook.com . DO a search under John Hudson Tiner, and the book will come up, along with his other titles. You can preview most of them online.

Hope that helps!

God bless,

Jen

We are using his History of Medicine book this year and it is both interesting and readable. He highlights scientists who were influenced by their Christian faith, which is nice - though it would be better if he saw fit to mention that some of them were Catholic . I ordered his Chemistry book from Amazon and sent it back because it overlapped quite a bit with The Mystery of the Periodic Table by Ben Wiker. If my book budget was larger I would have kept it, but as it was I felt I could only justify keeping one and preferred Wiker's book. If I remember rightly Tiner's Chemistry book is arranged as a history of the discovery of the different elements, with quite a lot of information about the individual elements interspersed with the history.

Kathryn,

This is one of the reasons I am hesitating to purchase any of the Tiner books myself. I don't want the dc to study only those famous scientists who were Catholic, but I don't think it is appropriate to downplay or obscure the role Catholics have played in science, either.

Blessed New Year!

If you get a list of Catholic scientists it would be easy enough to point out to your children which were Catholic. There is a book called 1000 Years of Catholic Scientists available from Ye Hedge School, which lists over 200 individuals. I don't think it gives much information beyond a chronological list, but it would probably be very useful to use alongside Tiner's books.

Kathryn,

Thanks for that information! I was not aware of this resource!
