Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We're off studying weather and I thought this would be a great topic for one of those lapbook thingies as we love this area of science! I've already printed off several things from the enchanted learning website and we'll be doing several experiments too. Problem is I'm completely ignorant, we're doing it NOW, and I have several dc to do this with. Any quick and simple ideas, concepts, links, etc... ASAP would be appreciated! I'm thinking of using this week and next week to make this an in depth and emersing unit study...

Okay... hoping the help starts rolling in here!

Weather Bug has a site with local weather conditions. Just plug in your zipe code. The weather channel has one also but I like this one better.

Scholastic has a weather site. Try the Weather Maker interactive program in the "Investigate" section of this site. Lots of fun.

Weather Wiz Kids has lots of infor and great experiments.

Lapbook ideas:
Types of clouds in a flap book. Outside have a pictures of teh different types of clouds. Insdie have the type of weather that cloud brings.

Incorporate the weather forcasting symbols into a book or flash cards maybe.

I have not started lapbooking officially yet...still in the researching stage, but the biggest tip I can give you is to have all your materials ready to go. The book I am reading says that you should have a lapbooking workshop before you attempt to put one together. In other words have all your supplies in one big bin ready to be made into your lovely lap book so the kids don't get too frustrated gathering the materials, cutting, etc...
Elizabeth had mentioned something to this effect when she had the idea that it would be fun to get the supplies together for a mom who had just had a baby, etc.. I can't remember where I had read that post, but it sounded like a great idea. I wish someone would put all of my lapbooking supplies together for me!

I posted last night but the post was eaten so I'll try again.

Here are some weather links that have helpful info for a unit study:

Both Weather Bug and the Weather Channel have websites for current weather and conditions. You just plug in your zip code and get up to the minute info about your area (or anywhere else in the country).

Weather Whiz Kids has lots of great weather experiments and activities.

Scholastic has a weather section. Try the Weather Maker interactive program in the “Investigate” section of this weather site. Lots of fun.

Lapbook ideas:
2 paper thermometers showing the difference between Celsius and Fahrenheit.

Something that incorporates weather symbols used in forecasting. Possibly a map of the US with removable symbols that can be changed on the map to show different weather patterns.

Flap book of clouds types. On outside a picture of the cloud - on the inside the name and the weather associated with it. Could also be done as a wheel book (?) that turns.

Section on extreme weather (tornados, hurricanes, etc.) - very current with Katrina.

Any of the following charts
-Beaufort wind scale
-Wind chill scale
-Heat Index scale

Mini book about weather folklore or the Farmer's Almanac

Just some thoughts - I'm still brainstorming. I enjoy weather study!
