Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We have been without a bishop since Pope Benedict's election (actually thought we were without before that but guess Pope John Paul II died before the promalgation of his acceptance of our bishops retirement - Pope Benedict promalgated it and made it official). Anyways we still do not have a bishop (retired bishop has been acting as administrator), but it seems to always take so long for us to actually get a bishop. So if you ladies would pray for us to get a very holy Bishop soon - and one open to a generous access to the Tridentine Mass that would be a great blessing. Thanks so much.

Janet

Janet and prayer warriors,
I will add your diocese to our family prayers...

Would you all add our diocese in Iowa to your prayers? Our bishop is also retired. We reeeeaaaally would like a holy courageous bishop!

God bless,
Angela

Janet,
Our diocese is in the exact same position. We lost our bishop right before we lost JPII.

It was a strange couple of days, being without a Pope and a Bishop.

We are fervently hoping that we get a more conservative Bishop. Our other one was quite liberal...did not like hsers, did not like mothers who stayed home.

I'll join your prayers to mine.

I'm glad this thread got bumped again as I had meant to comment. I was wondering if you are in the Sioux City diocese, Angela. From what I can see on Catholic Heirarchy web page the only currently vacant diocese in Iowa is the Sioux City Diocese and it isn't really vacant as a Denver priest was appointed in late 2005 as Bishop-elect. Bishop Walker Nickless is to be ordained as Bishop of that diocese today, Jan. 20. He is a holy man and very well respected in Denver - very pastoral. People were sad to see him leave Denver where he is a well-known local boy.

Anyway, one never knows how a priest will be in a new role - but I do sense he will be courageous also. He had an excellent role model here in Denver in our Archbishop Charles Chaput. I am hopeful that Bishop Nickless will be supportive of homeschoolers. I had heard at one point he had had some negative impressions, but in recent years had been positively swayed by some of our local families at his most recent parish.

I hope it is your diocese, Angela.

So do pray today for the new Bishop of Sioux City, Bishop Walker Nickless.

Hi Mary and all,
Unfortunately, we are not in the Sioux City Diocese! We are in the Davenport Diocese. Our bishop reached retirement age in May 2005 and is our interim administrator. We keep hoping maybe your Abp. Chaput could send us another good one from Denver!!

And that installation/ordination began just a couple minutes ago, 2pm CST; send a few prayers his way everyone!!

Thanks, Victoria for your prayers!

God bless,
Angela
