Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

This is not a huge request by any means...but I've always been so grateful for your prayers in the past so the first thing I thought of was to come to you.

I am greatly tempted to selfishness. I had an opportunity to go to a Mom's breakfast this morning. It would have been a delight. I was sort of looking forward to it, and my wonderful dh had, as always, been generous in encouraging me to go. But, as I got up and put my breakfast casserole together, I looked around - piles of dirty clothes everywhere, a totally empty refrigerator, a VERY messy house, and bathrooms in need of a hazmat team. It wasn't the kind of daily duty that could be tended to later in the day after my return. It was the kind that needed my attention right now. I cancelled. I know it was the right thing to do. The family inhaled the breakfast casserole and I feel pouty.

Please pray that I can resist this temptation and embrace the joy in the housecleaning and serving my family. This is really where I needed to be this morning. I don't want to be sour and waste the graces God has offered me here in the filthy bathrooms.

Thank you all so much. Offering up my day for your intentions.

Ohhhh, Jennifer, I struggle with this TOO many times! In fact a fellow hsing mom and I were talking about this very thing yesterday - how to embrace our vocation fully (and cheerfully) all the time. I hope our prayers defeat your "pouty" feelings.

Dear Jenn

I am praying for you friend - I have been there. I have wanted to go and meet other homeschooling friends on occasion - but that would have meant no grocery shopping (thus no food), dirty bathrooms, disorganization etc - so I have cancelled - and though I have inwardly grumbled - it was the right decision.

You will feel great at the end of the day when all is in order.

Also remember my post from awhile ago when I was grumbling about all the work while cleaning toilets - and looked up to see Abby in the door - telling me that
all my children and grandchildren would call me blessed. Every Friday - I repeat to myself "Blessed are those who scrub toilets..."

Offering up my hours on baseball and soccer fields for you..and hugs

what a beautiful post. thank you so much for sharing this.
I can relate both ways, I can tell you that a few hours of "fun" are quickly regretted when coming back home to face that which was put off (things I knew I needed to get done) hours earlier.
(and this is not saying that my dh and kids are not capable, at all!!)
praying for you.
offering my hours at the ball fields, with dh out of town, and all that I need to get done today for you.

love,

Jenn-You have managed to ask for prayers and inspire me at the same time. I'll be offering every scrub of the kitchen floor in unity with you today. Thanks for this.

Thank you all soooo much! I made it through the toilets! I felt such relief after asking for prayers, and was able to offer up all of my housework and focus on what a blessing it is to serve my family in these small and often un-noticed ways (well, ok, everybody noticed that there weren't green things growing in the toilet anymore. )

The house is clean and the laundry is almost done. I'm off to make a menu and a list and buy food...

You are so good to remember me in prayer! I'm humbled and so grateful.

Jennifer-

God must be so pleased with your sacrifice today- and your clean house is an added bonus. Praying He will bless you even more for taking care of your family in such a loving way ( nothing says I love you like a clean bathroom)
