Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Our family has recently read (and re-read!) The Seven Silly Eaters by Mary Ann Hobermann (ill. Marla Frazee). This hilarious book about a family with seven children really hits home for anyone who has kids who are picky eaters. The illustrations are a perfect depiction of what life and home are like as more and more children are added to it. The house looks just as most of ours do at times, with folded laundry piles around, children's art on the walls, books everywhere. I wouldn't be surprised if the author and/or illustrator are homeschoolers!

This has been one of our family's favorite books for years, and we give it as a gift to friends with many kids...the illustrations are great--the kids are always being creative around the chaos of the house...makes me feel better about my own home...

We just re-checked this book out. It is on of my dd11 favorites. She was so excited to see it and curled right up next to me for a reading. I'm thinking it is one I should by to save for her and her children.

Any thougts on making the cake? I have a lemonade cake recipe, using a cake mix, but it might fit the bill.

Another you might like is the Rattlebang Picnic, it's one of our favorites.

I must agree: We LOVE both Rattlebang Picnic and the Seven Silly Eaters!

We read this book as recommended here and my children loved it. They were so excited to make the cake... and they did. They put in everything it called for and a bit of red food coloring because they were dissapointed the batter didn't look 'pink and perfect' and it really was quite good! And they were so PROUD. The chefs were, dd 8yr, ds 6yr, ds 4yr!
