We checked out two Christmas books that we really enjoy. I don't know if there were listed elsewhere in any books; I just happened to grab them off the shelf and happy with the selection.

Shall I Knit You a Hat?: A Christmas Yarn by Kate Klise, illustrated by M. Sarah Klise

A big snow is going to start Christmas Eve, so Mother Rabbit makes a hat to keep Baby Rabbit's ears warm. Then he thinks of all their friends who need to keep warm from the snow, so lots of creative hats are knitted and given before the big snow. As we were knitting and crocheting for Christmas, this book was just perfect to fit the "handmade gifts" theme.

My only negative comment is the lack of a father or mention of a father -- if a child were to notice, it does look like a single mom story. But otherwise, very cute, and my five year old enjoyed the silly hats and the whole knitting theme.

The Christmas Knight by Jane Louise Curry, illustrated by Dyanne Disalvo-ryan.

This is out-of-print, but really wonderful for those who love the knights. The tale is about a very rich knight who for 20 years hosts wonderful Christmas celebrations and is very generous to the poor and sick. But then he loses everything, and is shunned by all. He isn't even invited by the King for the Christmas celebration. He realizes that being poor makes him appreciate the real Truth of Christmas and is blessed by a miracle. He takes this miraculous gift to the King. The story unfolds how this miracle changes his life.

Quite a bit of medieval life is weaved into this story, and the pictures are quite captivating. It's just the book for a Knight loving 5 year old!

One of the girls picked up Shall I Knit You a Hat a couple weeks ago at the library "by chance" too.....and they love it! Especially since we're all learning to knit around here.
