Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

This features the Holy Family in a variety of modern day scenerios, seeking shelter or needing help. The author, William Kurelek, is the author of A Prairie Boy's Winter and also A Prairie Boy's Summer. Apparently he dreamed a series of dreams when he was 12 about the Holy Family in different places. In one page, they are in a stable with cowboys outside. In antoher, they are in a boxcar at a railyard. In another they are on the side of the road in a car and Joseph has the hood up, seeking assistance. One page shows the Family with a Catholic famiy, receiving money they have saved for the poor, although they themselves are not rich. A crucifix hangs on the wall in that scene.

The author stresses "Whatever you do for the least of my brethren, that you do for Me." and many pages include other good quotes or a line or two from poetry.

I recommend this book. I think it's great for older elementary and up. Younger kids will enjoy it too but maybe not as much as the older kids would.

A Northern Nativity

My library had it.

Hope you like it!
