Our priest has asked the children in our parish to not receive the precious blood during daily mass.
I'm a bit upset about this. It's very important to my son to receive the precious blood. If my children are not supposed to receive then I'll be sure to let them know but I didn't think there was a minimum age requirement.
Father Richard has said it's okay during Sunday mass.

I don't understand why it's okay during Sunday Mass but not daily mass. My understanding is once you've made your FHC.

Is this possibly to do with swine flu?
It doesnt seem to make any sense to me from any perspective. I guess you will have to call the church and ask. Im curious to know what this is about!
In our family we usually just take communion in the form of the Body of Christ. Its just my personal preference.

I don't either, Paula. I'm very confused about this and wanted to make sure there wasn't some sort of rule before asking the parish about it. Father Richard came up to the children yesterday after mass (our group of homeschoolers meet after mass for a few minutes before going home) and told the kids not the adults.
In the past, he has asked that unless your confirmation age not to take the Precious Blood. It has bothered me since then.

Are there a lot of kids receiving and adding a lot to the amount of time daily Mass takes? I've been in several parishes where priests are very sensitive about keeping daily Mass short so that those headed to work or out on lunch break can still come regularly. We don't have daily Mass homilies, for example. I'm not saying I agree with that rationale, necessarily, but that might be the thought behind your pastor's request?

FYI: In our diocese the Precious Blood is only offered during special Masses like on Corpus Christi and sacraments like FHC and Matrimony.
Coming from another Diocese, where both species were offered, and because of how they are named, I thought the wine became the Blood and the bread became the Body; so it was important for me to learn that Jesus is COMPLETELY present - body blood, soul, and divinity in each form and no one is missing out on anything by only receiving under one species.

Since he doesn't have to make both available to all at every Mass.. why does he not just not have the chalice available during daily Mass for anyone.
Once the children may recieve.. they're able to recieve the equal of any other member of the parish.

I know in our parish children may recieve both but Fr. has made a comment on numerous occassions before mass reminding parents to make it very clear to thier children before recieving that within the Chalice is Our Lord & that the substance is indeed wine .
we had a very very awkward sistuation in our church where a young fellow he was not a boy he was a young teen but mentally disabled come up and receive . He took a sip and he then spat the wine out back into the chalice ! Fr. was at a loss of what to do ! others still needed to receive etc. he had to gracefully place the chailce aside and continue on etc. he did not realize the young man was also mentally challenged at first and I could see he wanted to respond to this boy in anger . Yet it then brought up the subject that yes children being children may indeed not be fully knowledgable of the Precious Blood being wine and even if so being prepared for what wine tastes like . So Fr. now reminds people to be aware to please please educate your children .
Reality is the majority of catholics do not homeschool or prepare thier children for proper conduct etc. so I can see the reaction etc. just being out of ignorance .
The woman with the child in our parish had not been attending mass to begin with and just brought her kids that day out of the blue and clearly had not prepared her child .
of course then there is the issue should they have received at all .
I'm not sure what your priests reasoning is if he knows your children and that they are fully educated in regards to Holy Communion etc. I don't see the why to his request .
did you ask him the why ?
