Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

It looks like we will be visiting the National Shrine of Elizabeth Ann Seton on our cross-country trip.

We will be there by late morning on June 19th.

Does anyone want to tour with us there? Just wondering aloud.......

In sunny and warm! NoCA!

I was actually planning on going sometime this year. I'll keep that date open.

Oooh, love that it's in the middle of the week. I hope to come. Make sure you include the National Grotto of the Shrine of Lourdes in part of the day...which is just up the road. Mother Seton and her sisters would travel by foot on Sundays to go to Mass there.

Seton School in Manassas has an annual pilgrimage in May that our family used to attend, and they would reserve this little pavilion in an adjoining park to the shrine grounds (as there are no picnicking areas allowed at the Shrine). I don't think there's a cost, and it would be nice to have a place to run around and eat. There's a couple of baseball fields, small covered pavilion, picnic tables. Would you like that info or have me reserve it for you?

And Maryan, do you have that info that you could PM to me, please?

I think perhaps we can try to be there. I haven't been there since I was in eighth grade. And you're right Jenn, the Grotto is lovely. In fact most of what I remember of that field trip is the Mass we had there as a class.

Bumping this up. Chari, did you want me to reserve the little pavilion?

at first I did not think so..........but, you do the research, Jenn, and reserve it for us, esp if it is no cost

I would greatly appreciate it, and thanks for bumping this up again

I was thinking of going to the other shrine, too........I had got lost in the reverie of reading the history at their website a few weeks ago.....thanks for the "thumbs up"

I think I would arrive there by 10:30am at the latest, maybe earlier??? but not much.

I want to leave the shrine no later than 3-4pm

So, reserve it for the lunchtime at least......we will bring our own "picnic"

anyone know how much the usual visit there might be??

anyone else want to go??

I am glad you are all meeting us there........kind of a fantasy of mine, to meet other Catholic hsers on a field trip to a Catholic shrine

how cool is this?

Chari,
There is no cost at all for visiting the Grotto or The Basilica and museum dedicated to Mother Seton. There are 2 other houses on the grounds where the Seton Shrine is which are open to the public for tours but depends on whether there are docents available. I go to Emmitsburg at least 3x per year because I have an aunt that lives near there and have been lucky enough to happen to get into the houses on different days but also haven't been able to get in on several other visits. If we visit that weekend, i would love to stop by and say hello. Gettysburg is just a few miles up 15 as long as your going to be in the area.

Chari,
I got your info and will call if I am there that week. We are waiting to get there but my aunt had a squirrel invasion and some damage and we can't go until that problem is taken care of.

Chari, The park requires a hefty refundable deposit which I'm just not willing (or have) to fork over.

Well, then........we can just visit there "at the same time" and picnic at the other shrine.....is that doable?

Can you still come?

Definitely, that was my thought. If the park is clear (which it should be for a weekday) we can go there, or just eat on the grounds at Mt. St. Marys. There are options....

I'm still planning on coming.
