I am so glad I read through Boxes for Katje before attempting to read it to the children! I was a teary mess, but in a good way.

This is a beautiful story based on a true story - the note on the flap states that the author's mother sent a box to Europe in 1945 - one of thousands of boxes that entered Europe under the direction of charities such as Children's Aid Society, Catholic Relief Services, and the American Red Cross.

I just happened across it at the library but it will tie the different themes of St. Martin's Day, Vetern's Day and giving in a wonderful way!!

Thanks for the reminder, Donna. I need to read it before we return the shoes boxes to our parish for Operation Christmas Child.

Last year, we also did the Boxes for Katje unit available at Homeschool Share.
