Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Tonight I read Annie 3 storybooks. She was yawning when I picked up Rumpelstiltskin by Paul O. Zelinsky and asked if she could just close her eyes and listen.

I hadn't read beyond the second page when her eyes popped open, her head turned, and she followed the whole story page for page...asking questions, pointing at pictures, theorizing. She wants me to read it again tomorrow.

At least three times, right before she drifted off to sleep, she turned to me and said, "Mommy, you know what I would have done if I was the miller's daughter?"

Another benefit of reading fairy tales to the young.
