Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I hope this is the right board to ask this on...I wasn't sure!

I wanted to see what ideas you ladies had for Valentine's Day! Books, crafts, activities, lessons...

My Valentine ideas on my blog...My Valentine ideas

That is what I have so far...but I'd love a few more things to do!

I think the math with candy hearts is one of my favorite ideas I have found so far! What have you found that you are excited about?

THANKS!

We will read Love is...

We will also discuss the religious themes related to Valentine's Day: red -- martyrdom, sacrifice; hearts -- love of the Lord and one another, Christ's love for us; maybe other stuff like arrows, angels, roses... don't know

I hope to make heart cookies (We've never done that before, but I have cutters.) and heart crayons.

Don't know what else.

Candace I love your ideas! We will be using some of them, plus making pink/red fairy cakes & coolies, all topped with sprinkles :)

Cay recently wrote a post about The Ballad of Valentine. We checked it out and it is a very sweet book following the rhythm of the song "Oh, My Darling Clementine." A lot of fun and a lot of rabbit trail possibilities as Cay points out.

Thanks for the ideas everyone and thanks Candace for starting this thread.

One book we always read is "Somebody Loves You Mr. Hatch" by Eileen Spinelli. It is a lovely book. It is a wonderful opportunity to discuss so many things - the value of community, how simple acts of kindness can mean so much, acknowelgement and rememberance of those in our community who are alone (especially the older or disabled), etc.

I'd love to hear more ideas!!

We will read The Kissing Hand and Pocketful of Kisses by Audrey Penn.
We'll have a Valentine tea with pink cupcakes and red berry tea, make Valentines cards for friends and family, do sweet-heart math, read about the Sacred Heart and Immaculate Heart and draw or color their images.
Not sure what else at this point.
I like your heart hide and seek idea!

We are going to be making Valentines for the seminarians of our diocese (and maybe yours too - they are here from Monterrey, Phoenix, Tulsa, Madison, Helena, Cheyenne, Sioux Falls, Fargo, Salina)

And Valentine's week, Feb. 11-17, just happens to be "Random Acts of Kindess" week. A good time to do something unexpected and kind for someone each day of the week.
