Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I keep thinking about all these people whose children are or will be going to school next year and how I wouldn't mind culling them in my own homeschool environment. Have any of you homeschooled friends' kids? I decided that one family with six kids (four of whom I'd homeschool) was too much for me. The oldest in that family is 11. And in my family, we homeschool and live all day. We do devotions at 7:00 or 7:30 in the morning which comprises most of our catechism (other than this, they read once a week each out of their catechism books and saint books). And then there's a read-aloud (history or literature or occasionally science) that just sort of happens whenever our little one sleeps and we have time. This could happen during a morning nap, an afternoon nap, or after 8:00 pm!

But there's another family with two sweet little girls, 5 and 3. They wouldn't be too difficult to integrate into our (lack of) structure, would it? Little kids are easier because I can do their things within a couple of hours in the morning. What do you think? Am I overreaching my abilities? I welcome advice to help me discern what to do.

Tina,

One thing you'd definitely have to check into is what your state and county say about this. In many places, parents can homeschool their own children legally, but not the children of others.

I have looked into this before and in New York "the great majority of the schooling has to be taught by the parents of the children homeschooled."

I do not know what the state considers "the great majority."
