Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have never had any rude comments in person (except from my Mom )but I do wonder about negative comments on blogs. For me, if I read a blog and don't like what they are saying, then I just leave. Duh! No one is forcing anyone to read this stuff, after all.
Funny, my Mom (ironic) taught me that "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all." I take that to heart and I guess other folks just don't.
The man at the basketball game I probably would have been much less charitable with. "Stupid" is a word one does not toss around lightly here. Them's fightin' words!

Yes, his choice of that word shocked me! And what was he thinking my response would be..."yes, I think it *is* stupid...that is why I am doing it"?

not play sports? please explain to me why I'm running around so much if my homeschooled children can't do sports

and we don't go through the public school either! Not to mention we're in a tiny area so I can't imagine the opportunities there would be in a larger area.. but we do soccer(parks and rec) and swim team (own entity) and lacrosse (club)

Maybe he thought asking "Don't you think that's stupid?" was more polite than simply saying, "That's stupid." Absurd, but so much that people do is.

It might be a good sign that this person even read the blog -- it clearly is a home-learning blog so maybe you're evangelizing and the commenter is fighting the truth? As my dad used to say, "maybe we're not praying enough for folks like this".

That is what I am hoping, and why I answered the way I did instead of just bashing back. My hope is that she will visit some more blogs (and maybe mine again) and see enough that she won't be able to fight the truth any more.

Only those who refuse to see will remain blind. Any one who   lets themselves see the amazing fruits of our labors has to eventually acknowledge that homeschooling is good!

My dad was very skeptical about homeschooling and even staying home with my children in general. "Not contributing to society" and all that garbage. It only took a few years for him to acknowledge that my children were better behaved than the kids he saw out in public and now, after only five years of official homeschooling, he is the so proud to be a homeschooling Grandpa!

Theresa, you answered very graciously. I have had some anti Catholic comments left by straners,on my blog, when I have talked about the liturgical year. Since I see my blog as a way of sharing with family and friends and not for argument, I have simply deleted those comments.
