Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Jennifer, I have requested the Song of Bernadette from the library (the one Mary mentions above) and we will make a small grotto as a craft - either the one from Seton's Art 1 or something homemade using an aluminum mini loaf pan (like we did for Our Lady Guadalupe). We will read the story of Lourdes in Mary and the Apparitions. (I can't find the link anywhere online - it is a small children's book by Regina Press.) Also, our Catholic gift shop sells Lourdes water, so I will try to pick some up as well as a holy card. That's all I have planned so far!

OOOO...the grotto is beautiful! I could do that with a holy card and popsicle sticks on cardboard. I think. What kind of glue would I use to glue pebbles to cardboard? I don't think our trusty glue sticks will be enough.

We've made lots of grottoes here, including ones for the Stations of the Cross. Tacky glue from the craft store has worked well for us.

Have any of you found a coloring sheet for Our Lady of Lourdes on-line? I know there is a real coloring book, but I was looking for something I could just print out.:-)

You might want to try A Holy Water Font
or another Holy Water Font!

We are celebrating this lovely feast at present being Sunday lunchtime. We quickly worked on this grotto using a cardboard box, copious amounts of bougainvillea growing over our fence and our 'ordinary time' table napkins.

Upon coming home from Mass we dropped into the Cheesecake shop hoping there would be a white cake discounted to represent "The Immaculate Conception" and there was a beautiful Pavlova! All white inside with fruit on top!

Just about to enjoy and watch our videos this afternoon - happy feastday for you all tomorrow!

This site has one - it is the only one I've run across. I can't link directly to the page. You'll have to search by feast day. I keep hoping to find an image similar in look to the statues or holy cards though.

Thank you Mary! That will work for my little one. I think we are going to celebrate both Our Lady and St. Bernadette on the 16th. Too crazy today!

I found what appears to be a beautiful website. There's a lot of info here. Here's a page on Our Lady of Lourdes

Enjoy!

When I first read the title of this thread the thought that immediately came to mind was my three boys outside washing themselves in mud for the "reenactment"....

Probably not the suggestions that you were looking for....

Today I found myself fashioning a Marian Grotto out of a pan of newly made rice-krispy squares ('cept I didn't cut them into squares yet). You know, that stuff is remarkably pliable ! I then placed a mini statue of our Lady of Lourdes inside and a mini statue of St. Bernadette beside it. The kids thought it was so neat, but they kept picking at bits of the grotto when they thought I wasn't looking . Oh, the things we DO to celebrate the liturgical year !!

Ooooh, Mary, that sounds so yummy....uh, I mean lovely. That really is a great idea as that would make a great stone texture - kudos to you.

Especially if you used "fruity pebbles" (sorry, just couldn't resist)

We did our grotto today since we were too busy yesterday. This idea may be a bit late for some but you could even do it for St. Bernadette's day which is Feb. 18 on the old calendar. (maybe the new one too). We made one out of sculpy clay and aquariam rocks. I have a picture on my blog. It turned out nice.
