Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I would love to own this set of books. I have read the on-line versions, but I really don't do well that way. I think I have to actually hold the thing in my hand to retain the information. Any suggestions on a good source for them?

I just saw them at Lulu.com in the "modern English" version. Although, having gone through the Modern English and original prefaces online, the Modern English has taken some liberties with what was written, and that was just the preface. A few lines seemed definitely adjusted to mean what the editors thought they ought to mean. And it's not like the originals are in Old English. . . It looks like the originals are available on Amazon.

I like having a paper copy, though, too. I process information better if I can really relax with it. There are just many other books that I'd like to own a copy of, first.

Why couldn't we discuss CM here?

I would LOVE that, if you all are up for it.
I have learned much in the past from these book discussions....like when we discussed

Homeschooling with Gentleness and Divini ILlius Magistri

If you want to start with vol 6, Lissa and Michele, that works for me.

Slightly off topic but Suzanne I'd love to know what you did when you found this set? I have two mental visions- one is that you jumped up and down and just managed to restrain yourself from screaming, the other is that you contained all your excitement while you oh so casually strolled out forcing yourself to walk not run before they realised what a treasure they were discarding. So what did you do?

Excellent descriptions of the options considered!
"I CONTAINED ALL MY EXCITEMENT while walking oh so casually.......!!

One CANNOT take a chance with such important matters!

Just found a WHOLE SET at ebay that ended a couple of days ago for $15 + $4 shipping THAT DIDN'T SELL. May be worth watching for others.

I'd like to cast my vote in on this too. I'm wanting to read through the orginal CM, finally, and would love a discussion group to go to!

Count me in too!!! I've had the set for about 6 months now and really want to delve in. I, too, have been daunted by the task of doing this all alone.

That would be fantastic! Would it make sense to devote a new thread to each chapter for easy reference? Or would that be too complicated?

Volume six sounds great! I'll place it on hold at the library today.

Willa -- this is a great idea -- a read-along!

Why don't we set a date and go through chapter by chapter, having a different thread for each so it could be easily searched later?

Thanks so much Willa for this nudge -- I'd been meaning to get it back out but I didn't have anyone I could read it with (unless MaryM, Momwise and MicheleM want to start a study group ... hint, hint)

I saw a set on ebay yesterday and it ends today I think... maybe tomorrow. I'm watching it in my favorites.

I think a post by chapters would be best, this way if we want to go back and read or search for something someone shared it would be easy to locate.

How about if we start on Monday January 29th? That gives the people who have ordered time to receive their books.   Or on February 1st, which is a Thursday.

Maybe it will stave off the February blahs if we have some new ideas to think about

I like the idea of the separate titles for chapter by chapter.

Don't feel bad, Irene, I know a couple who got the set for their wedding and they've been married about 15 years! I tried to "pry" it from my friend, but no such luck. Imagine, all that great education philosophy just going to waste

I'd rather wait until February 1st if no one else minds because my copy is coming through ILL and sometimes that takes a few weeks.

I'm all set. I knew I had ILL'ed them but they hadn't all come in yet. When I went into the library tonight they were here.

So... are we getting started with volume 6.
