Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

A lot of places will use a mirror so they can see even if the organ was turned around - or at least they do in concert halls and Protestant churches. I know my dd had a mirror when she played organ along with a band (Navy hymn) and needed to see the band conductor (the position of the organ meant that her back was turned to the band and band director). Depending on the type of organ and its location, you also have to account for the time delay of the sound. I know dd had to do that when she accompanied cantors (the cantor went to the front while the choir and organ were in the back choir loft at this church) and in playing with the band. BTW, the band was in a concert hall - not Mass.

Unfortunately, our choir is front and center - right behind the altar and "flying Jesus" - always visible to everyone. Our organist and the whole choir has no problem seeing Father! We have a real choir loft in the back but that is used for extra seating.

Our organist just turned the organ in the choir loft so that his back is to the priest...yeah, he can't see what's going on . But, hey, he says the sound is much better!

No problem - just give hom a rear view mirror . Anglican churches here often have organs in positions where the organist can't see either the choir or the priest. A rear-view mirror (or two) works nicely.

Here's a fun note and resource from Open Book today. I am really getting more excited about church music, and especially now that I know there is an official Catholic children's choir organization (and the music is not twaddly!!)

I thought about this...but he was having a hard time managing when he was facing the altar... . I think the visual is distracting.
