Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

you are anxious and worried about many things. There is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part and it will not be taken from her.

From today's Gospel reading, Luke 10:41

I love this Gospel reading because I so identify with Martha. I am forever distracted by my well-intentioned "doing" from the One thing. That is my discouragement. Yet, through Martha's encounter with Christ, she became a saint! She didn't become Mary or anyone else to become a saint. She became St. Martha by transforming her heart and focusing it on Christ. This focus, I'm thinking, led her to modify her behaviors which accentuated the positive (her generous hospitality, organizational skills, loyalty, family responsibility, etc.) while minimizing her anxiety and worry. She became Christ-like...the Martha God called her to be. Now THAT'S encouraging!

Love,

I thought you were actually posting to me!
And lo and behold, it appears you were!

Thank you. I love the St. Martha medal my dh got me for my 30th b-day. It's St. Martha stomping a dragon while holding a soup ladle in a raised fist like she's intent on beating the devil out with it. Ohhhh yes. I fit the name.

Angie, Angie, you know I understand! It is funny you bring that up though. I watched the movie, The Miracle Maker, with Ralph Fiennes a few months ago. Every once in a while I hear his voice, as Jesus, saying, "Martha, Martha." It sounded so sweet to me.

Speaking of Martha, I love her voice of faith in John 11 when her brother Lazarus has died:

When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went to meet him; but Mary sat at home.
21
Martha said to Jesus, "Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.
22
(But) even now I know that whatever you ask of God, God will give you."

I think that is an example of how her heart was being transformed as you say Angie --what a wonderful testament to faith ! Her story really speaks to me too.

I also love St. Martha and have a statue of her on my bureau. She is an "underrated" Saint, don't you think?
