Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Dear Alice,
Would you be so kind as to share what you have done for First Communion notebooks? Please ?

Certainly, I would be very glad to post something tonight. In the meantime, I found a book in a local Catholic bookstore that I hadn't seen before. It is called "Today I made my First Communion" by Diane Ahern and provides instruction for First Holy Communion through a story about two children receiving Catechesis from a priest at their local parish.

Are you familiar with it?

Love, Alice

What do you put in your First Communion notebooks, Elizabeth? My dd will receiv her First Communion next year so I've already begun thinking about this. Thank you!

I am so sorry it's taken me so long to give a proper response to this thread.

The main headings of Margaret's First Holy Communion notebook were:

Eucharistic Adoration

Our Lady

Our Church

The New Testament

The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass

Reconciliation

Special Prayers and Poetry

First Communion Stories of the Saints

Margaret's First Communion Day

I'll write more to fill this in this bare bones outline, and I look forward to hearing all of your ideas as well.

Last night I was at a talk given by George Weigel, and one of the things he mentioned was the gift of Pope Benedict who knows so much in philosophy and theology and is able to sum it up simply and teach it to all levels without losing any essence of Truth.

His example was his time with about 10,000 First Communicants in Italy last year. He knew ahead of time what the questions would be, but he didn't write down the answers. Here is the text that would be so marvellous to add to First Communion dicussion and Notebooks:

Pope Benedict Speaks to First Communicants. I haven't searched for it on the Vatican site, but I'm sure it's there and elsewhere.

I know--so lovely! I forgot about the lecture until I came home. My father is part of the planning committee (and refreshments) so I wanted to go. I've been at another talk with him and I really, really enjoyed it, so it was a lovely day for me!

No pics of George Weigel. I'm working on the Tomie thing. I'm having the worst time with my computer, my connection. Plus wrangling with doctors and appointments...it might not be until later today...maybe even tomorrow if this keeps up!

Okay, I'm back to say I followed your link to Pope Benedict and the First Communicants, Jenn, and it is awe inspiring! I'm definitely printing it out to share with Marianna.
