Do any of you use it? If so, how? I really need to include some in my diet, but I can't bring myself to try it. I don't care for the smell. Does it taste good? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Sorry, couldn't help myself. My mother used Brewer's Yeast when I was growing up for her pregnancies...Adelle Davis follower. How I hated that smell! I tried doing that breakfast drink, held my nose and drank it, but when I spilled in dh's car I never could make myself try it again. Taste and smell, not so good.

Jenn, you're so encouraging!!
Well, I don't look forward to yet another thing that makes me nauseous. I currently spend most days feeling sick just from the vitamin regimen I'm taking.
Coming from another angle, the reason for Brewer's yeast is that I'm pretty anemic and my cycles are heavy (sorry for such personal info, but I really need suggestions!). The vitamins (lots of A, Bs, flax, E, magnesium, C, some iron, plus a children's multiple) are making me incredibly sick. I'm trying to stomach cayenne tablets, but that's sitting like a rock in the tummy too. Help? Suggestions?

Oh, my mother had this problem. Is your cayenne tablets or capsules? My mother had capsules, and would open them up and sprinkle them on her food.
Sounds like you have too many vitamins. Are you taking all at once? Can you find a multiple vitamin with most of the needed and then supplement in just a few areas? Prenatals have iron. Rebecca also suggested eating some protein and have a full stomach before taking the vitamins...very important for me, too.
I'm sure someone else with more expertise can weight in. I'm just thinking it's too much right now. How about increments of basics, like the iron which you need (I forget the companions to iron absorption)....

The cayenne is in capsules. Sprinkling sounds much more tolerable (maybe?). Worth a try.
Too many pills is likely. I just don't know what to cut out. I was already taking the B, E, Mag and C without nausea and without improving the anemia. The iron is actually not in "vitamin" form (because that makes me throw up). I'm just eating large quantities of heavily fortified cereals (grape nuts, cream of wheat...). Maybe it's still too much. (And probably isn't helped by the OTC decongestant I was taking earlier this week.) I am taking them all at once. Hadn't thought about spacing them. Maybe I can do B, E, Mag and C at lunch and the rest at bedtime. Maybe if I have a stiff drink before laying down I'll sleep through the nausea..

Be sure to take iron on a very full stomach or it makes you sick! I don't generally get sick no matter what I do to my stomach (lucky me) - but I got terribly sick taking a vitamin pill with just a tiny bit of iron on a somewhat empty stomach (I had food but not much protein and boy did I pay for it that whole day!).
Brewers yeast was gritty but I just drank it with whatever - but then again I didn't need it for long, and wasn't sick to my stomach. It wasn't the best tasting stuff in the world.
This comes from someone who ate raw hamburger and pork and shark as a child so I'm sure I'm immune to just about anything.

What about blackstrap molassas ? It seems like I heard that was good for anemia. It might be a bit more tolerable than brewer's yeast.

Janette, can you divide the pile into three little ones and take some with each meal? Taking the cal/mag at bedtime will help with sleep, as well as the Bs which will help you to wake up easier and less groggily. The rest you can divide up between breakfast and lunch. Or maybe a teatime vitamin !
I would not cut any out. Do you need the brewers yeast if you are taking Bs already? Are you taking ferrous sulfate for Iron? It is the least absorbed and often used in enriched foods that you mentioned. I had trouble with anemia during my second pregnancy and my midwife recommended a green liquid chlorophyll drink that tasted like mint. You put a couple spoonfuls in water and drink it down. It just tasted like minty water. I got pretty hooked on it and it helped the anemia tremendously, not because it contains iron but because it stimulates the red blood cell production or something like that. Here is the brand that I took. Not quite a stiff drink but still good !

Marilyn Shannon has a section on anemia and heavy periods. B6 and chlorophyll are extremely important.

Thank you ladies, for your suggestions! I have been *out* with a bad sinus infection for two weeks so I haven't tried anything new.
Kym, I have blackstrap molasses and will give it a try. Anything sounds better than brewer's yeast at this moment!
Rebecca, I am taking the Bs, but need all the help I can get. In the past when I've been anemic, recovery has been really slow even when taking Bs and iron. The iron was ferrous sulfate, so I've switched to a slow iron tablet. I'm wondering if the Bs aren't being well absorbed and am going to look for liquid Bs. I love mint, so I'm going to try the chlorophyll too.
Jenn, the Marilyn Shannon book is one of the ones I've been going by on the supplements. I didn't see the part about chlorophyll, though. Which is very funny, because not 3 weeks ago, my brother commented (in a random passing thought) that he had no idea why anyone would take chlorophyll and what could it possibly do for your body? I'll have to enlighten him!

That is too funny!
I reread Marilyn Shannon's book over and over again and am always finding new things just slipped into paragraphs that I missed before. I don't comprehend well, do I? I just reread her chapter on infertility and saw that she recommended immediately going to an RE (Reproductive Endocrinologist). Well, I never saw that before, and only recently found out there was such a doctor! I wish her book had lists...each chapter or problem then have a list corresponding with suggested supplements and diet. I'm a list person.
