My son's (4y) interest in airplanes has kicked up another notch and I was wondering whether there were any particularly good books about or containing airplanes? I've managed to satisfy his interest in The Way Things Work videos but would like to venture further with books. I've checked out all the books in the non-fiction section (all 6 of them and boy are they boring....)

Aah boys and airplanes! - What could be more natural (besides trains, firetrucks, and construction vehicles)?

I love DK books so would suggest:
DK Big Book of Airplanes
Mighty Machines - Airplane

When my big boys were really little they liked the Byron Barton Airport and Donald Crews Flying. BOth are great authors for preschoolers.

I haven't seen The Airplane Alphabet Book but really enjoy Jerry Pallotta's other alphabet books - I imagine this is a good one, too.

We are headed to the library tomorrow - I know they have a lot of airplane books - I'll peruse them for you and see if there are more recommendations.

Ohhh... thank you so much! It's one of the drawbacks around here. I miss the big library systerms last year.

The suggestions you made look great! Maybe I should pick up the ones on trucks too.

my favorite is the DK book as well, we have it. however, my 9-yo is not too happy with it (he wasn't in the mood last night when i asked him to explain). he said his favorite is the airplane book from the "Designed for Success" series.

he also loves reading about the Wright brothers. we have the COFA book about them and have borrowed several related books, listed in this post

Paul's favorite airplane books is How to Fly a 747. I keep expecting to get a call from Homeland Security, as the book was reported "lost" when we could not find it (it was under a rug). We own it now.

I have to second this one. I had to throw it out because the paperback was so loved it fell apart.

At the library yesterday found this one which is a nice living history book in picture book form.

Brave Harriet - the story of the first American woman to get a pilot's license and the first woman to fly solo over the English Channel (1912). Very interesting look at early flight when the "aeroplane" was young.
